A randomish update

I joined a new gym. It's two minutes from my house instead 15 minutes away. It's open all the time, so I can go late at night or at 4:30am if my heart so desires. And then, miracle of miracles, I actually went and worked out last night. Then I did pilates this morning. And I plan to go back again tonight. Trying to not overdo it, so I'm going slow. Also, I've decided to do the couch to 5K program, so I'll have some sort of goal over the next little while besides just not being fat. I haven't weighed myself in a little while, but I'm assuming it's still hovering around what it was. I continue to eat cookies and drink full calorie (meaning full-taste) Coke, but you know, baby steps. Working out while doing it is better than not working out and still doing it.

Did you join that gym by Albertsons? How do you like it? I totally understand the baby steps. I tend to fall into the category of one who works out so that I can eat what I want...at least your working out!

So, after the couch to 5k, you want to do the 5k to 1/2 marathon "program". I need someone to run with me! We do live like less than a mile away from eachother...PLEASE!?!

I totally did. I like it. It's very basic, just treadmills, arc trainers, and bikes (upright and recumbent)and weight machines. And since those are all the things that I use, it's perfect for me. Plus, the close factor and the open 24/7 are HUGE to me.

Someday, when I learn how to run properly I would love to run with you. We are close...maybe you could give me the skinny on running because I am CLUELESS.

Here's what I've heard: I need good shoes from the place downtown that watches you run first and then puts you in shoes to help me avoid shinsplints (which is what has always defeated me in the past). Also, that I shouldn't lift my feet too high when I run so that I'm not bouncing, I shouldn't swing my arms to avoid sideaches, and I should start taking glucosamine for my joints.

What else should I know about the basics? Fill me in....the sooner you do, the sooner we can start running together.

I'm hardly one to be giving advice, I just kind of dove in and picked up a few pointers along the way.

I do recommend the store downtown, but be ready to fork out the big bucks (or take their suggestions and then go home and find the same shoes on line for cheaper...) I don't know about the bouncing or arm-swinging but I have heard that the glucosamine helps a lot for joint pain.

I definately recommend outside if possible over the treadmill, it so much more enjoyable and I'm able to go further since I'm not watching the numbers on the treadmill.

When I started I chose a course (found out later it was 4 miles) and just ran as much of it as I could with breaks for walking. Once I got to the point where I could run the whole thing consistently, I started adding distance slowly. I say just dive in, you'll probably be surprise by what you can do! Let me know when you are ready to go!

Oh Val...I love you girl. Chari...I'll run it with you. I just can't train with you. COOL?

I'm with Chari. Finding a shoe that actually fits and works for you body time is a super good idea.

Also...just setting a goal and pushing yourself until you reach it is the BEST way to do it if you ask me! Then adding little by little will get you places you never thought you could go.

Let's do it....ALL OF US, YEA?
