So, I was reminded over the last week that I have no self-control when it comes to candy! Seriously, it's a big problem. Joe left this morning to go out of town for the week which always makes for an emotional/lonely/depressed week....combine that with the loads of candy that we got trick or treating....it's a recipe for disaster. So, I picked out a few candies to bribe the boys with throughout the week and stuck the rest of it in his trunk before he left. Problem solved (hopefully)!
How are you guys coping with all of the junk food that comes with the Holidays, parties, etc?
I need ideas! And real ones that will actually work!

Blasted Candy!

Just tonight I asked Ryan to hide the candy. The boys get to pick out one piece the night before to have after school the next day. Then I can't eat it because they will be expecting it, and I can't eat the other stuff because I don't know where it is. So much easier if you remove the temptation.
We let the boys pick out two pieces of candy for the next week.
The leftovers #1 Rob and I picked out our favorites and had one chow fest.
#2 The undesirables (or, in other words, the candy we could easily part with) ended up in the trash
#3 Rob put the rest in his school bag to munch on here or there. You see, he has self control....I dont.
So, like Val. I don't eat the kids candy. I would feel guilty doing so because it was rationed out. So....I am done with Halloween candy.
As far as Thanksgiving goes.....it is ONE DAY (or sometimes two with leftovers). Give yourself and break and ENJOY!
Christmas.....this one is tricky. Unfortunately, I haven't figured this one out yet. I usually just eat what I want (sometimes in small portions....sometimes not) and then spend the month of January BUSTING MY BUTT in the gym in order to keep from gaining. One of these years it will probably catch up with me. I LOATH the day.
A friend of mine 'invented' the candy fairy - similar to the tooth fairy, except she takes candy instead of teeth, but still leaves money in it's place. My friend throws the candy in the trash (after picking out a few of her favorites) and leaves $.05 for each piece tossed. This year she used all pennies (so it looked like lots) and left it for each of her kids in their individual trick-or-treat buckets. She said it was more fun for the kids than the couple dollar bills she gave them each last year.
